With 20 years experience in the communications field, Shelly has a wide range of experience with a variety of clients including Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations, as well as state and local government agencies. She has provided issues management and strategic counsel in the healthcare, public health, education, economic development, banking, trade and commerce, and environmental arenas.
Shelly has led teams working on award-winning campaigns to assist public agencies and private companies with the unique communications and issues management challenges. For the past few years, Shelly has worked with First 5 California, a one-of-a-kind government organization devoted to raising awareness of early childhood issues and funding local programs that address healthcare, preschool and special needs, among others. She guided the Port of Los Angeles’ massive organizational restructuring and efforts to develop a new brand identity and enhanced local positioning. Shelly led the landmark public relations programs for the State of California Office of AIDS Public Education Campaign; supervised the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Works’ Storm Water Pollution Prevention Campaign; and has developed environmental branding and public awareness programs for Amoco, Caltrans, McDonald’s, Dow, NYNEX and others.
Shelly’s corporate work includes overseeing aspects of award-winning branding and community relations programs in California and nationally for Washington Mutual, and providing strategic counsel and management to Blue Cross of California when it was acquiring Wellpoint, Inc. She has managed consumer product launches including DSS (Digital Satellite System), an alliance between GM Hughes/DIRECTV, Thomson Consumer Electronics (RCA) and USSB, which culminated in the most successful consumer electronics launch in history. She has provided strategic counsel to Sun Healthcare Systems, SCAN Healthcare and PG&E Creditors Committee as all were in the midst of reorganizations and/or bankruptcy proceedings.
Shelly has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism/public relations from Texas Tech University. She is a board member and communications committee chair for the Southern California branch of CORO, a 75-year-old national leadership foundation, as well as for The Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic. She also provides pro bono public relations counsel to Joni and Friends International Disability Service Organization and other nonprofits.
Shelly lives in Encino with her husband and two children.
